The Great Fire of 1901 in the White Collection

This exhibit explores the Great Jacksonville Fire of 1901—one of the most destructive urban fires in U.S. history—and the ways this historic event is reflected in documents in the Eartha M.M. White Collection. In doing so, we honor Eartha M.M. White, who saved valuable documents from the fire, and who played an important role in relief efforts to benefit the African American community after the disaster.
