Relief Efforts
- Eartha M.M. White, through her personal leadership and later the Colored Old Folks Home and other charities she helped found, played a key role in long-term recovery and care for the vulnerable.
- Local churches, congregations and associations, neighboring cities, and private business owners across the U.S., all are examples of organizations that stepped in to assist with relief efforts.
- After the fire, the Jacksonville Board of Trade quickly raised over $14,000 in donations to support recovery efforts. The money was used to provide food, shelter, clothing, and medical care to thousands of displaced citizens. It also helped with debris cleanup, rebuilding roads/utilities across the city.
