Annie Gray was born in December of 1868. she was born and raised in Washington D.C. where she lived her whole life. She had 6 siblings, 2 older brothers, 1 older sister, and 3 younger sisters making her the middle child. She was a public school teacher for most of her life and we infer that she worked at the Stevens School as she lived very close to there. She never married and lived with her siblings for most of her life. Her family is one of the oldest and most prominent families in Washington. Due to that fact, and the fact that she was able to take many vacations and travel a lot in her life, it can be infered that she and her family were wealthy. She took many vacations to california and visited Eartha M.M. White many times in Jacksonville. She would spend entire summers and Christmas with Eartha M.M. White in her house in Jacksonville. Eartha would somtimes even through parties upn her arrival with many people from the community attending. We know that Gray and White met through the Bethel Baptist Church. The earliest letter we have from Gray to White was from October 2, 1902. This implies that they met and their friendship started somtime before then. Gray regularly participated and supported Earthas work. She donated to Earthas "river ride for the poor" fundraiser that she organised. She joined the comitee to help in Eartha's "baby week" to raise money for the Infant Welfare Fund . She also donated a large amount of clothes to support Earthas fund to the Women's Relief Headquarters.
