Just a line to let you know that when you get this note, if you are at home, the funeral of your friend
It is real sad, for they have nothing and the house is mortgaged up to the top of the chimney. The church is standing for the expenses. A very grand thing after the way he acted toward them.
They say he is so swollen. This clipping will tell you a little account of them. Should the papers

have anything about the funeral in them, I'll send you a copy. Did they notify
I tell you, it does not pay to live so far above our neigh-bors
I shall try to get to the tail end of the funeral on my way home from school, Monday.
